The Hermann Landmarks Commission helps preserve the historic character, architectural heritage, and cultural identity of Hermann, Missouri.
Hermann’s buildings, streetscapes, and historic sites tell the story of the people who shaped the community, from its German settlement roots to its role as a distinctive Missouri River town. The Commission works to protect these irreplaceable places while supporting thoughtful stewardship, compatible improvements, and continued community vitality.
The Commission was established under the City of Hermann’s historic preservation regulations, first adopted in 1995, to help protect the community’s historic character and guide appropriate change within the Historic Overlay District.
The Commission reviews proposed exterior changes to properties within the Historic Overlay District, provides guidance to property owners, supports preservation education, and promotes appreciation for Hermann’s historic resources.
Our work is rooted in a simple idea: preservation is not about freezing Hermann in time. It is about helping the community grow while respecting the places, materials, craftsmanship, and stories that make Hermann unique.
What We Do
